Grey wolf or grey wolf (Canis lupus [a]), also known as timber wolf or Western wolf, [b], is a dog native to Eurasia and remote North America. It is the largest living member of the family, with an average weight of 43 – 45 kg (95 – 99 lbs) for males and 3 – 38.5 kg (79 – 85 lbs) for females. Like the red wolf, it has larger size and sharp features compared with other canines, especially on the ears and muzzle. Its winter coat is long and thick, mainly mottled gray, though almost pure white, red or brown to black. As of 2005, msw3 has identified 37 subspecies of Cryptosporidium lupus.
Grey wolf is the second most professional member of dogs, only inferior to Ethiopian wolf, which is reflected in its morphological adaptation to hunting big prey, more gregarious nature and highly advanced performance behavior. Nevertheless, it is closely related to smaller breeds (e.g. East wolf, hyena and Golden Top Wolf) and can produce fertile hybrids. It is the only species of dog, covering the old world and the new world, and originated in Eurasia during the Pleistocene, and settled in North America in at least three different periods during the ranjolab period. It is a social animal that travels in a core family of a pair of paired adults. Grey wolf is usually the first natural enemy in its whole range, only human and tiger pose a serious threat to it. It mainly feeds on large ungulates, although it also eats smaller animals, livestock, carrion and garbage.
Grey wolf is one of the most famous and well researched animals in the world, and there may be more written works about it than any other wild species. It has a long history of association with humans, and is despised and hunted in most herdsmen's communities because of its attacks on livestock, while it is respected in some agricultural and hunter gatherer societies. Despite the widespread fear of wolves in many human societies, most of the recorded attacks on humans have been caused by animals with rabies. Non rabid wolves attack and kill people, mainly children, but this is rare because wolves are relatively few, far from people's homes, and fear hunters and shepherds.
