Foxes are small and medium omnivorous mammals belonging to several genera of Canidae. Foxes are smaller than medium-sized dogs, with flat skulls, erect triangular ears, pointed noses slightly upward and bushy tails (or brushes).

A single line of the genus foxes belonging to 12 species of the true foxes. About 25 current or extinct species are always or sometimes called foxes. These foxes are either part of a symbiotic population of South American foxes or part of a peripheral population of bat eared foxes, gray foxes and island foxes. Foxes live on all continents except Antarctica. So far, the most common and common fox species is the red fox (Vulpes vulpes), which has about 47 recognized subspecies. The global distribution of foxes and their wide reputation for cunning have made them stand out in popular culture and folklore in many societies around the world. In Europe, especially in the British Isles, hunting foxes and hounds is a long-standing pursuit in Europe. European settlers exported foxes to all parts of the new world.
