Hanukkah is a Jewish festival commemorating the reconstruction of the temple of Jerusalem (the second temple) when makabi rebelled against the selucid empire. According to the Hebrew calendar, Hanukkah is observed for eight nights and one day from the 25th day of Kislev, which may occur at any time in the Gregorian calendar from late November to late December. It is also known as the festival of lights and the feast of dedication.

The festival is celebrated by lighting the candles of the candlestick with nine branches called Hanukkah candlesticks (or Hanukkah). One branch is usually placed above or below the other, and its candles are used to light the other eight candles. This unique candle is called Shamash. Every night, Shamash will light another candle, until the last night of the holiday, all eight candles will be lit together. Other Hanukkah celebrations include playing with the top and eating oil-based foods such as doughnuts and lamb. Since the 1970s, the Chabad Hasidic movement around the world has started to use public Candlestick lighting in public places in many countries.
