Pentagram, whose geometry is regular concave decagonal, is a common ideograph in modern culture. It is rare in the classical heraldry. It was introduced in the flag act of 1777, especially for the American flag. Since then, it has been widely used in the flag.

Among other uses, it has become a symbol of fame or "Star" in western culture.

If the collinear edges are joined together, a pentagram will be produced.
