Chips or chips are chips that are fried or baked to crisp. They are usually used as snacks, side dishes or appetizers. Basic French fries are cooked and salted; other varieties are made with various seasonings and ingredients, including vanilla, spices, cheese, other natural flavors, artificial flavors and additives.
Potato chips are the main part of leisure food and convenience food market in western countries. In 2005, the total income of the global potato chip market was 16.49 billion US dollars, accounting for 35.5% of the total market of salty snacks (46.1 billion US dollars).
In the 20th century, potato chips went beyond the price range of restaurants cooked by chefs and began to be mass produced for household consumption. Mike sell's chips company, headquartered in Dayton, Ohio, was founded in 1910 and is known as "the oldest chips company in the United States". Tri sum chips, based in New England, was founded in 1908, formerly known as the leopinster chips company, located in leopinster, Massachusetts, claiming to be the first potato chip manufacturer in the United States.
