The merger and final separation of Bentley and Rolls Royce is a series of mergers and acquisitions, which began with the acquisition of Bentley by Rolls Royce in 1931, and then became the receiver. In 1971, Rolls Royce itself was forced to take over, and the British government nationalized the company, dividing the aerospace sector (Rolls Royce PLC) and the automotive sector (Rolls Royce Motors Limited), which retained the Bentley sector. Rolls Royce was then sold to engineering group Vickers, who sold Rolls Royce to Volkswagen in 1998.

Both Rolls Royce and Rolls Royce retain intellectual property rights in the Rolls Royce car name and company logo, while aerospace company Rolls Royce retains intellectual property rights in the company, which continues to license the automotive sector. Therefore, the sale of "Rolls Royce" products to Volkswagen includes Bentley's name and logo, vehicle design, model nameplate, production and management facilities, ecstasy and Rolls Royce's grille shaped trademark (later sold by Volkswagen to BMW), but not the right of Rolls Royce's car name or logo. Aerospace Company Rolls Royce eventually sold both to BMW.
