Apricot

Apricot is the fruit or fruit bearing tree of several species of plum (drupe). Generally, apricots come from P. Armeniaca species, but P. brigantina, P. mandshurica,P。 Mume is closely related to P. sibirica species with similar fruits, also known as apricot.

Apricot is a small tree, 8 – 12 m (26 – 39 ft) high, with a trunk diameter of up to 40 cm (16 in.) and a dense canopy. Leaves ovate, 5 – 9 cm (2.0 – 3.5 in.) long, 4 – 8 cm (1.6 – 3.1 in.) wide, rounded at base, pointed at tip, margin serrulate. The flowers are 2 – 4.5 cm (0.8 – 1.8 in) in diameter and have five white to pink petals. They are produced either alone or in pairs in the early spring of leaf initiation. The fruit is a stone fruit, similar to a small peach, from 1.5 to 2.5 cm (0.6-1.0 in) in diameter (larger in some modern varieties), from yellow to orange, often red on the exposed side. Its surface can be smooth (botanically described as hairless) or soft and short hairy (botanically: pubescent). Meat is usually hard and not juicy. It can taste from sweet to sour. A single seed is enclosed in a hard, hard stone shell, often called a "stone," with a grainy, smooth texture, except for three ridges that extend down from one side.
