Binoculars or field telescopes are two side-by-side mounted telescopes that aim and point in the same direction so that the viewer can use two eyes (binocular vision) when looking at distant objects. Although the sizes vary from opera glasses to large military models mounted on the base, most sizes can be held in both hands.

Unlike a single telescope, binoculars provide users with three-dimensional images: for closer objects, two views presented to the observer's eyes from slightly different perspectives will produce a merged view with a sense of depth.
