Rocket propelled grenade (usually abbreviated as RPG) is a shoulder type anti tank weapon system, which is used to launch rockets with explosive warheads. These warheads are fixed to the rocket engine and fly stably with fins. Some types of RPGs can be reloaded, while others are one-time. RPG is usually loaded from the muzzle, with some exceptions.

RPG with high explosive antitank warhead (heat) is very effective for armored vehicles (such as APC). However, unless the main armored vehicles are weak, the heavy armored vehicles such as main battle tanks are usually too hard to be penetrated by RPG. Various warheads can also cause secondary damage to vulnerable systems (especially sight, orbit, rear and roof of turret) and other soft targets.

Strictly speaking, the term "rocket grenade" is the antonym; it comes from Russian РПГ or рчнойпротиВотанков ыйранатомт (transliterated as "ruchnoy protivotankovy granatomot"), which means "hand-held anti tank grenade launcher", which is the name designed in early Russia.
