Twitter is an online news and social network service in which users can post messages and interact with messages ("tweets"), which cannot exceed 140 characters. Registered users can post tweets, but unregistered users can only read them. Users access twitter through their website interface, SMS or mobile device applications. Twitter Inc., headquartered in San Francisco, California, USA, has more than 25 offices around the world.

Twitter was created by Jack Dorsey, Noah glass, biz stone and Evan Williams in March 2006 and launched in July. The service has rapidly spread worldwide. In 2012, more than 100 million users published 340 million tweets a day, and the service handled an average of 1.6 billion search queries a day. In 2013, it was one of the ten most visited websites, known as "Internet SMS". As of 2016, twitter had more than 319 million active users per month. On the day of the 2016 US presidential election, twitter proved to be the biggest source of breaking news, sending 40 million election related tweets as of 10 p.m. (Eastern time) that day.

Twitter's signature bird logo has become an internationally recognized symbol. The original logo was used from March 2006 until September 2010. After the first redesign of the site, the slightly modified version inherits the first style.

On February 27, 2012, a tweet from an employee working on the company's platform and API discussed the evolution of the "Larry Bird" logo with the creative director of twitter, and revealed that it was named after Larry Bird of Boston Celtics in NBA. In August 2011, Boston Celtic interactive media director confirmed this detail when he asked biz stone, twitter co-founder.

On June 5, 2012, twitter announced its third logo redesign, replacing Larry Bird with an updated icon ("Twitter bird"). Since the logo revision, the word "Twitter" and the lowercase letter "t" are no longer used, and bird has become the only logo of the company's brand. According to Douglas Bowman, the designer of twitter, the new logo is similar to the blue bird on the mountain, and twitter explained on its website that it should not modify the logo (such as rotating the bird, changing the color of the logo, etc.).
