Pet elf is a media franchise managed by PET elf, a Japanese consortium between Nintendo, game freak and creations. The franchise is shared by all three companies, but Nintendo is the sole owner of the trademark. Founded in 1995 by Tajiri Satoshi, the franchise focuses on the fictional animal "Pokemon", known as human Pokemon trainers, who capture and train each other to fight for sports.

The franchise was originally a pair of original game boy video games developed by game freak and released by Nintendo. Now it covers video games, trade card games, animated TV shows and movies, comic books and toys. Pokemon is the second best-selling video game series, after Nintendo's Mario series and the highest paid media series ever. The franchise also appears in other Nintendo media, such as the super smash Bros. series.

Video games (including home games, such as hey you, Pikachu! Of nytendo 64) The total sales volume has exceeded 290 million sets. In November 2005, 4kids entertainment, which manages the licensing of Pokemon non games, announced its agreement not to renew the Pokemon agency agreement. Pokemon international, a subsidiary of Pokemon Japan (formerly Pokemon America), oversees all Pokemon authorizations outside Asia. As of May 2016, the Pokemon series had a total global revenue of $6.0 trillion (equivalent to $55.15 billion).

The franchise celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2006. 2016 is the 20th anniversary of the original game release. The company celebrates by broadcasting advertisements during Super Bowl 50, and reissues Pokemon red, blue and yellow to redesign the latest game play. The mobile augmented reality game Pokemon go was released in July 2016. The first batch of seventh generation games, Pokemon sun and moon, was released worldwide on November 18, 2016. A live action film adaptation based on detective Pikachu began production in 2017. The slogan of the franchise is "go all out".
