Call of duty is the franchise of the first person shooting game. The series began with Microsoft Windows and later expanded to consoles and palmtops. Some derivative games have been released. The earlier games in this series are mainly set in World War II, but the later games (such as call of Duty 4: Modern War) are set in modern or futuristic settings. The latest game "call of Duty: World War II" was released on November 3, 2017. The upcoming game call of Duty: black action 4 is under development and will be released on October 12, 2018.

The call of duty game is released and owned by Activision. Although Infinity Ward is still a developer, treyarch and sledgehammer games also develop multiple games by releasing alternate studio games. Some games have been developed by gray matter interactive, Nokia, Expat entertainment, spark unlimited, amaze entertainment, N-space, Aspyr, rebellion development, ideaworks game studio and nstigate games. These games use a variety of engines, including ID tech 3, treyarch NGL and IW engines.

As of February 2016, more than 250 million copies of the call of Duty series have been sold. All call of duty games have sales of more than $15 billion.
