Green salads or garden salads usually consist of leafy vegetables, such as lettuce, spinach or rocket (sesame). Salad leaves can be cut into small pieces or torn into bite sized pieces, and then thrown together (called "toss salad"), or placed in a predetermined arrangement (to form a salad). They are often decorated with nuts or buns.

Wedge shaped salads are made by cutting lettuce (such as cabbage) into two or four equal parts with other ingredients on them.
