International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated on 8 March each year. It commemorates the women's rights movement.

The first celebration of women's Day was held in New York on February 28, 1909, and the 1910 International Women's Congress recommended March 8 as "International Women's Day". In 1917, after women gained the right to vote in Soviet Russia, March 8 became the national holiday of the country. Then the day was celebrated mainly by the socialist movement and the Communist countries, until it was adopted by the United Nations in 1975.
