Harleen Frances quinzel is a fictional super villain, appearing in the American comic book released by DC Comics. The character was created by Paul Dini and Bruce Tim and first appeared in Batman: Animation Series in September 1992. Later, she appeared in Batman comics of DC Comics and for the first time in Batman adventure 12 (September) (1993).

Harley Quinn, a frequent visitor and lover of clowns, met her as a psychologist at Arkham Asylum in Gotham, where the clown was a patient. Her name is a play in the name of harlequin, a character that originated in the art of comics. She works with the villains Catwoman and poison ivy, who are often Quinn's close friends, habitual allies and romantic partners.
