PPsh-41 (small size - pulemyot shpagina; Russian: Пистолет - пулемётШпана; "shpagin machine gun"); it is a cheap, reliable and simplified substitute of ppd-40. Common nicknames are three letter acronyms "PE PE Sha" (Russian: ППШ) and "papasha" (Russian: папаша), meaning "Dad".

Ppsh is a magazine type selective shooting submachine gun, which uses open bolt and recoil action. It is mainly made of stamped steel, can be loaded with box or drum shaped magazine, and launch 7.62? 25 mm Tokarev pistol shot.

During the Second World War and the Korean War, ppsh was widely used for fighting. It was one of the main infantry weapons of the Soviet armed forces during the Second World War. About 6 million PPsh-41 were produced. Until 1970, Vietnamese still used it in the form of a 50 China 50 (licensed copy). According to the 2002 edition of the Encyclopedia of World War II weapons, ppsh is still being used with irregular armies.

PPsh-41 fired standard Soviet pistol and submachinegun bullets at 7.62x25mm (Tokarev). Ppsh is equipped with 71 shells, weighing about 12 pounds (5.45 kg), 35 magazine ammunition of about 9.5 pounds (4.32 kg), and the speed of ppsh is about 1000 rounds per minute. Compared with most of the other World War II military submachine guns, it is more likely to get angry. It is a durable, low maintenance weapon, mainly made of cheap and easy to obtain parts, mainly stamping sheet metal and wood. The final ppsh has a top ejecting device and L-shaped rear-view mirror, which can be adjusted to a range of 100 meters and 200 meters. A coarse compensator is installed in the barrel sheath to reduce the muzzle climb during automatic shooting. The compensator has achieved some success in this regard, but it has greatly increased the flash at the muzzle and weapon reporting. The ppsh also has an articulated receiver for field stripping and weapon cleaning. Chrome plated inner holes allow the ppsh to withstand the long time interval between corrosive munitions and two cleanings. There is no forward grip or forearm provided, and the operator usually has to hold the weapon behind the drum box with a supporting hand, or hold the lower edge of the drum box. Although 35 round arc magazines were available since 1942, the first 71 round drum magazines were carried by ordinary Soviet infantry in World War II.

The ppsh drum magazine can hold 71 bullets. In practice, there may be more than 65 misfeeds. In addition to the subsequent 35 round magazines gradually replenishing the drums after 1942, the magazine is slower and more complex than the loading problem. With a few fewer rounds, the box magazine really has the advantage of providing excellent grip for supporting the hand. Although the ppsh is equipped with a sliding bolt safety device, if the gun is placed on a hard surface, there is still a risk of accidental discharge in the bolt opening design of the weapon.
