Barack Hussein Obama is an American politician who served as the 44th president of the United States from 2009 to 2017. He was the first African American to be president. He represented Illinois in the U.S. Senate from 2005 to 2008, and in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004.
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, two years later, the territory was admitted as the 50th state of the union. Obama grew up mainly in Hawaii and spent a year as a child in Washington state and four years in Indonesia. After graduating from Columbia University in 1983, he worked as a community organizer in Chicago. In 1988, Obama entered Harvard Law School, where he was the first black president of the Harvard Law Review. After graduation, he became a civil rights lawyer and Professor, teaching constitution at the University of Chicago School of law from 1992 to 2004. From 1997 to 2004, Obama ran for president of the United States with a third term in the Illinois Senate. The Senate. Obama won national attention in 2004, winning an unexpected March primary, entering the Senate with a well received keynote speech at the Democratic National Congress in July and an overwhelming election in November. In his first two years in office, Obama signed many landmark bills. During the depression, the economic recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and the tax relief, unemployment insurance reauthorization and job creation act of 2010 became economic stimulus measures, but the Republican Party regained control of the house of representatives in 2011. To limit this, Obama signed the budget control act and the taxpayer relief act. In foreign policy, Obama increased the number of US troops in Afghanistan, reduced nuclear weapons through the new START treaty between the United States and Russia, and ended military involvement in the Iraq war. He ordered against Muammar Gaddafi's involvement in Libya's military activities and ordered the death of Osama bin Laden.
Obama was sworn in in 2013 after beating Republican candidate Mitt Romney to re-election. In his second term, Obama advocated greater inclusiveness for LGBT Americans, and a summary of his government documents urged the Supreme Court to repeal the ban on sexual marriage (United States v. Windsor and obergfeld v. Hodge).
