Leontopodium nivale, commonly known as Edelweiss, is a famous alpine flower, belonging to Compositae or Compositae.
The plant prefers rocky limestone areas at 1800-3000 meters (5900-9800 feet) above sea level. It is non-toxic and has been used in traditional medicine or folk medicine as a drug against abdominal and respiratory diseases. Thick hair seems to adapt to high altitudes, protecting plants from cold, drought and UV damage. As a rare, short-lived flower found in remote mountainous areas, the plant is used as a symbol of the Alps, the beauty and purity of the sakazaki beauty associated with the Alps and Carpathians, and as a national symbol, especially Romania, Austria, Bulgaria, Slovenia and Switzerland. According to the folk tradition, it is a kind of commitment to dedicate this flower to relatives.
The leaves and flowers of his plants are covered with white hair and look like wool. The flowering stems of edelweiss can grow up to 3 to 20 cm (1 to 8 inches) in the wild, or up to 40 cm (16 inches) in cultivation. Each flower consists of five to six small yellow clusters of spikelet florets (5 mm, 3 / 16 in.), surrounded by fuzzy white "petals" (technically slices), in a double star shape. Flowers bloom between July and September.
