Donald John trump (born on June 14, 1946) is the 45th current president of the United States and has been in office since January 20, 2017. Before joining politics, he was a businessman and a television celebrity.
Trump was born in Queens, New York, and received a degree in economics from Wharton Business School. For 45 years, he managed the trump organization, a real estate development company founded by his grandmother. His career has focused on building or renovating office buildings, hotels, casinos and golf courses. He has set up several joint ventures and branded various products under the company's name. He produced and presided over the apprentice TV series for 12 years. As of 2017, he was the 544th richest man in the world with an estimated net worth of $3.5 billion.
Trump has long shown an interest in politics. He ended up as a Republican in the 2016 presidential election, beating 16 rivals in the primary. Commentators described his political position as populist, protectionist and nationalist. His campaign received extensive free media coverage; many of his public statements were controversial or erroneous. Trump won the election on November 8, 2016, beating Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton by an amazing margin. He became the oldest and wealthiest man ever, the first not to hold a military or government office, and the fifth to win the general election despite winning it. His election and policy sparked numerous protests.
In his first months as president, trump overturned several policies of former President Barack Obama, withdrew the United States from the trans Pacific Partnership Agreement and the Paris climate agreement, and destroyed part of Cuba's thaw.
