Flight & Magic heroes is a series of video games created and developed by Jon van caneghem through New World Computing. As part of the franchise right of ight and magic, the series changed ownership when 3wc acquired NWC and when 3Do closed and sold its rights to Ubisoft. These games have turn based, fantasy themed conflicts in which players can control the armies of mythical creatures. The series began releasing its first game in 1995. The seventh part, heroes of the magic VII, was released on September 29, 2015.

New World Computing shut down after "heroes of the Magic 4" was made, and Ubisoft has owned the franchise ever since. Nival interactive developed the first game in the series since the transition, and hero invincible 5 developed black hole entertainment sequel hero invincible 6, but edge entertainment later developed patches and DLC, and magic invincible VII. Vituos developed shadows of darkness independent extension for heroes VI.

This series is mainly aimed at dos and windows platforms, with little support for Mac OS over the years. In addition to windows and MAC platforms, Heroes II is ported to RISC OS, while Heroes III is ported to Linux. Gametap has played the first four games of the series since 2006. Remakes also appear in Game Boy Color.

Hero series belongs to turn strategy type. The nominal hero is a player character who can recruit troops, move on the map, capture resources and fight. Heroes also add some role-playing game elements; they have a set of statistics, artifacts that can add points to the army, enhance its capabilities, and magic spells that can be used to attack enemies or generate strategic benefits. Moreover, Heroes gain experience from fighting, so experienced heroes are much more powerful than inexperienced ones. Experienced heroes may persist throughout the campaign, but they don't usually last between scenes.

On a typical map, players start with a town on a chosen route. In the whole series, the number of different camps is different. The least four of them appear in hero 1, and reach nine peaks in hero 3's extended sword of doom. Each town alliance carries a unique biological selection from which players can build their armies. The town layout also identifies other unique features, such as the local hero class, special rewards or abilities, and a preference for certain skills or magic.

Towns play a central role in the Olympics because they are the main source of income and recruits. The typical goal of each game is to occupy all enemy towns. The map can also start with neutral towns that don't send heroes, but can still be captured by any player. As a result, it is possible (and often) to have more towns than the players on the map. After occupying a town, the town retains its route type, allowing new owners to create hybrid forces, although Heroes VI introduces the ability to change the route of the town to that of the occupying player. If no town or hero is under control, or if there is no town for seven consecutive days, the player or team is eliminated. Except for special conditions, the last remaining player or team is the winner.

The secondary goal that often appears in the series is to acquire a powerful object that is buried somewhere called the "ultimate artifact" (heroes I and II), the Grail (III and IV), or the "tear of Asha" (V, VI and VII). On the map. In all games except Hero 6, the hero will visit a special location (called Obelisk or Oracle in hero 4) to gradually show the map of the workpiece location. In Hero 6, the hero must collect four pieces of the moon, and then make "Asha's tears" appear on the map. The final artifact provides a huge reward for the hero who carries it; the Grail or tear of Asha allows the hero to build a special building in one of their towns, providing a huge reward for the player.
