Valentine's day, also known as Saint Valentine's day or Saint Valentine's feast, is celebrated on February 14 every year. It originated on the Western Christian Sunday to honor one or more saints valentinos and is regarded as an important cultural and religious activity. Although it is not a public holiday in any country / region, there are business celebrations in many parts of the world.
A number of religious stories related to the lovers of February 14 were added to later religions, including a popular biography of St. Valentine in Rome, which shows that he was imprisoned and persecuted under the rule of the Roman Empire for banning married soldiers from marrying and serving Christians. According to legend, Saint Valentine cured the daughter of his jailer astrius during his imprisonment. Before being executed, he wrote a letter for her, saying "your lover" as a farewell.
In the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the 14th century, this day was first associated with romantic love, when the tradition of courtly love flourished. In 18th century England, it became an occasion for lovers to express their love for each other by offering flowers, candy and sending greeting cards (called Valentine's day). In Europe, Saint Valentine's key was given to lovers "as a symbol of romance, and they were invited to unlock the donor's heart", and given to children to prevent epilepsy (called Saint Valentine's madman) [6]. Valentine's Day symbols used today include heart-shaped outlines, pigeons and winged cupids. Since the 19th century, handwritten Valentine's day has been replaced by mass-produced greeting cards.
Valentine's Day is the official holiday of the Anglican Eucharist and Lutheran Church. St. Valentine's Day is also celebrated in many parts of the Orthodox Church, although on July 6 and 30, respectively, the former commemorates the Roman elder St. Valentine, and the latter commemorates heromathil Valentine, bishop of interamna (Modern Terni)).
