Deodorant

Deodorant is a substance used in the body to prevent the body odor caused by the decomposition of sweat bacteria in armpits, feet and other parts of the body. A small group of deodorants, antiperspirants can affect odors and prevent sweating by affecting sweat glands.

Antiperspirants are usually used in armpit, deodorant can also be used as body spray in foot and other parts. In the United States, the food and Drug Administration classifies most deodorants as cosmetics, but antiperspirants as over-the-counter.

The first commercial deodorant, mum, was introduced and patented in the late 19th century by the inventor of Edna Murphy in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The product was briefly withdrawn from the US market, [2] but has now been sold under the ban brand by US retailers. The modern antiperspirant formula was patented by Jules montenier on January 28, 1941. The formula was first discovered in the "Stopette" deodorant spray. Time magazine called it the "best selling deodorant in the early 1950s". When the patent expired in 1941, stopette was later eclipsed by many other brands.

There is a popular myth that deodorant use is associated with breast cancer, but so far, the causal relationship has not been confirmed in research.
