Bone

Bone is a rigid organ that forms part of vertebrate skeleton. Bone supports and protects all organs of human body, produces red blood cells and white blood cells, stores minerals, provides structure and support for human body, and realizes mobility. Bones have various shapes and sizes, and have complex internal and external structures. They are light but durable and have many functions.

Bone tissue (bone tissue) is a kind of hard tissue, which is a dense connective tissue. There is honeycomb matrix inside, which helps to enhance the rigidity of bone. Bone tissue consists of different types of bone cells. Osteoblasts and osteocytes participate in the formation and mineralization of bone. Osteoclasts participate in the absorption of bone tissue. The modified (flattened) osteoblasts become lining cells and form a protective layer on the surface of bone. The mineralized matrix of bone tissue has the organic component of collagen (called collagen) and the inorganic component of bone mineral composed of various salts. Bone tissue is mineralized tissue of cortical bone and cancellous bone. Other types of tissue found in bones include bone marrow, endometrium, periosteum, nerves, blood vessels, and cartilage.

There are more than 270 skeletons in the human body at birth, but many of them will fuse during the development process, so a total of 206 independent skeletons are left in adults, not including many small sesame like skeletons. The largest bone in the body is the femur or thigh bone, and the smallest is the middle ear bone.

The Latin word for bone is OS, so many nouns use it as a prefix - for example, osteopathy and osteopathy.
