Scorpion is a predatory spider of scorpion. They have eight legs and are easily recognized by a pair of grasping tripods and narrow, segmented tails, which typically bend forward at the back and end with a venomous snake sting. Scorpions range in size from 9mm / 0.3in (tymphochactas mitchelli) to 23cm / 9in (Heterometrus swammerdami).

The evolutionary history of scorpion can be traced back to the Silurian period 430 million years ago. They have adapted to a wide range of environmental conditions and are now found on all continents except Antarctica. There are about 1750 species of scorpion, and 13 extant families have been identified so far. Only about 25 of these species have venoms that kill humans. With the new information brought by genetic research, taxology has changed, and may change further.

Scorpion sting is painful, but usually harmless to human body. For s species found in North America, healthy adults usually do not need treatment, although medical care should be sought for children and the elderly. Other types of harmful stabbing found in South America, Africa and Western Asia may require medical care.
