Tetrigia are insects of the order caelifera in Orthoptera, including and (shrub b). Sometimes they are called hopers to distinguish them from Ka insects with longer antennae. They may be the oldest living group of herbivores, dating back to the Triassic period about 250 million years ago. The Tetrix is usually an insect that lives on the ground. Its powerful hind legs enable them to jump powerfully to get rid of the threat. They are semi metabolized insects (they don't undergo complete metamorphosis). They hatch from eggs to nymphs or "funnels". The larvae undergo five metamorphosis and become similar to adults at each stage of development. Under high population density and certain environmental conditions, some species of Tetrix species will change color and behavior, and form groups. In this case, they are called locusts.

The insects in this group are plant-eating animals, and several species sometimes become serious pests of grains, vegetables and pastures, especially when thousands of locusts swarm in and destroy a large range of crops. They protect themselves from predators by camouflage. When found, many species try to shock predators with bright wing flashes when jumping and (if adult) launching into the air (usually only for short flights). Other species, such as the rainbow grasshopper, have a warning color that can stop predators. Tetrigia are affected by parasites and various diseases. Many predators feed on nymphs and adults. Eggs are targets of parasites and predators.

Tetrigin with has a long relationship with human beings. Locusts have had a huge impact and changed the historical process. Even a small number of locusts may be serious pests. They are eaten in countries such as Mexico and Indonesia. They are characterized by art, symbolism and literature.
