Rubik's cube is made by the Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture, ern 3-D composite puzzle invented in 1974. Rubik's puzzle, originally known as magic cube, was licensed by Rubik and sold by ideal toy Corp. through businessman Tibor laczi and founder of seven towns Tom Kremer in 1980, winning the German year of special puzzle game of the year. As of January 2009, 350 million cubes have been sold worldwide, making it the best-selling puzzle game in the world. It is widely regarded as the best-selling toy in the world. On the original classic cube, each of the six sides is covered with nine stickers, each of which is one of six solid colors: white, red, blue, orange, green and yellow. The current version of the cube has been updated to color plastic panels to prevent peeling and fading. In the models currently on sale, white is relative to yellow, blue is relative to green, orange is relative to red, and red, white and blue are arranged in clockwise order. On earlier cubes, the location of colors varied from cube to cube. The internal pivot mechanism allows each face to rotate independently, mixing the colors together. In order to solve the problem, each face must be returned to only one color. Similar puzzles have emerged, including various numbers of sides, sizes and stickers, not all of which are Rubik. Although Rubik's cube reached the height of mainstream popularity in the 1980s, it is still widely known and used. Many stenographers continue to practice it and other twists and turns, and compete for the fastest time in all categories. Since 2003, the world Cube Association, the international governing body of Rubik's cube, has organized competitions around the world and maintained its official world record.
