Avatar is James Cameron's Avatar, an American epic sci-fi film in 2009, directed, written, produced and co edited by James Cameron, starring Sam Worthington, Zoe sodana, Stephen long, Michel Rodriguez and siganie Weaver. The film was filmed in the mid-22nd century, when humans were colonizing Pandora, a habitable, lush moon of gas giants in the Alpha Centauri galaxy, to extract the room temperature superconductor mineral UN. The expansion of the mining colonies threatened the continued existence of the Na'vi tribe, the indigenous people of Pandora. The title of the movie refers to the genetically modified NAVI Body, whose brain is in a remote area and is used to interact with Pandora's natives.

The development of avatar began in 1994, when Cameron wrote an 80 page album for the film. It was supposed to be filmed after Cameron's 1997 film Titanic, which is scheduled to be released in 1999, but according to Cameron, there is no necessary technology to realize his vision of the film. The film's work on extraterrestrial languages began in 2005, and Cameron began developing screenplays and fictional universes in early 2006. Avatar's official budget is $237 million. Other estimates show production costs between $280 million and $310 million and promotion costs between $150 million. The film takes full advantage of new motion capture shooting technology and releases films for traditional viewing, 3D viewing (using real 3D, Dolby 3D, Xpand 3D and IMAX 3D formats) and "4D" experience in some Korean cinemas. It is a breakthrough of film technology to brag about three-dimensional films.

Avatar premiered in London on December 10, 2009, internationally on December 16, and in the United States and Canada on December 18. It is highly praised by critics for its pioneering visual effect. During the show, the film broke several box office records, becoming the highest grossing movie ever, surpassing Titanic in the United States and Canada, which held a 12-year record (and by Cameron). It also became the first movie with a box office revenue of more than $2 billion and the best-selling movie in the United States in 2010. Avatar has been nominated for nine Oscars, including best picture and best director, and won three awards for best art direction, best photography and best visual effects. After the success of the film, Cameron signed a contract with 20th Century Fox company to produce three sequels, making Avatar the first of the planned four. On April 14, 2016, Cameron confirmed plans for four sequels. "Avatar 2" was originally scheduled to be released in December 2018, after which it was postponed. The sequels will be released in December 2020, 2022 and 2023, respectively. These sequels are scheduled to be released in 2020, 2021, 2024 and 2025.
